If I had the skills, this year, I would be inspired by the many layered grime and elegance of Dr. Parnassus' traveling troupe...

His wagon looks just like the best art car that's never been built-

Totally playa appropriate!
I've made some headway in this direction---
Progress from last week: (note- I will post pictures of what I made as I get them...so check back for edits)
Over the weekend:
- i made a neck ruff for DBF- We were hoping for Elizabethan,

but it looks more 'early nineties poet's blouse'

because of the fabric choice (recycled silk hankie) but it feels amazing, so no complaints.
- a shockingly good refashioning of a camo-print skirt into desert gear- inspired by the intuitive use of silk scraps by Beetle.Though I wasn't copying those ideas, my use of stretch netting wound up replicating some of the awesome use of lace in San Francisco boutiques.
-I also made a fabulous top to go with it, but I am afraid it may be too racy to post pictures of it on the Internet.
And then, I veered into more traditional desert rave attire...

-I altered the above gold American apparel bathing suit bottoms to make them fit better (Ive been thinking of doing that for at least 2 years, and finally, with the help of a zig-zag stitch, had it done it all of 2 minutes. maybe less, because I didn't pin OR measure.
I made some headway on the navy blue short pants, and got the sleeves off of the paisley jacket that I'm refashioning into a vest.
What I still need by Sep. 1st is...
-outfit for the drive (navy short pants)
-leopard print top
-paisley vest- finish putting on hooks, and armholes
- arm bits from white ruffle material. (i gave up on the booty shorts.)
-orange and scarf refashioned into skirt? (either short, or long and flowy- legs out.
-leg warmers
a-la-

I think I will make these with turquoise fur
-I also want to make some white fur anklet along the same lines
-romper refashion with a long and flowing brown shirt--if I can figure out how to add crotch.
-What I'd like to make if i had more than two weeks....
-two bikini style tops- blue leopard print and something else.
-hoodie refashion
- neon vest that I keep moaning about and putting off
-knit top, (white ribbing? maybe with embellishment from cut up t or black material? Another out of that fingerprint mesh- with grey or navy spine
-harem pants.
-striped short pants
-fix and hem gold skirt
These are quick and dirty projects. (with the exception of the short pants.) So- if I can knock off one of these a day, and put on finishing touches on the plane as I go back and forth from weddings, I'm in great shape.
This week---next step in navy short pants.
---leopard print top.
---leg warmers
---ruffle arm bits
---romper refashion.

This is the most amazingly perfect hobby for you on so many levels.
