I made a ham...

To get my sewing mojo back for the new year....and to get ready for all that shirt sewing I have in my queue...

I used fabric from my first project ever-and stuffed it with scraps. Good times!

If anyone else wants to try this, just cut two ovals- 10 by 6.5 inches or so, sew the whole thing, leaving a two inch gap or so, clip the whole seam- (I forgot to do this, and got some nasty puckering), invert, stuff, and slipstich the opening back together. Its not as ham-shaped as some that I've seen, but, I think it'll do the job.

Here's the other side:

  1. My commercial ham is filled with sawdust. I wonder if yours will be sufficiently firm. In addition to use the ham for pressing darts after I sew, etc. I sometimes pin pieces to it to shape them.

Mine has one side that's covered in wool, which I think is supposed to absorb heat or moisture. The other side is a woven fabric; it may be muslin.
