diana rupp knickers--the big reveal!

These are done! It only took me four months to finish them! (If you recall, I started on these in July) I tried out the hand topstiching with embroidery thread-and it really shouldn't be done in a contrast color- it looks weird.

So I have to take it out again, and maybe replace with navy one of these days on my commute. But in the meantime, wore them all weekend!

These are so comfortable. I was worried at first that they were going to look like yoga pants because of my fabric choice and wonky topstitching. But after the buttons and cuffs went on, they are like a whole new pair of shorts/pants!I think I could use a pair of these in every color! I made them in the size between small and medium. I think in a stiffer fabric, I'll have to shorten them a tad, and also watch out for the underlap in the waist (I did something wrong, and they dont reach under each other, so I put in buttons instead of hooks here...)

full disclosure- This was full of wonky mistakes that I dont know how to fix...so hopefully I'll only have to wear this in the dark.

But I'm so proud of myself anyway---Even with the mistakes, this is a truly wearable garment!Plus, these are my first functioning button holes, button loops, and topstitching...I could feel myself getting better at the edgestitching on every seam!

And this is a lesson to me too in budgeting---I got the fabric, the buttons, and the interfacing all from SCRAP, in a bag full of other stuff for less than 7$. And I have way more fabric, buttons and interfacing left over. I dont need to be buying some 15$ a yard fabric and freaking out the whole time! New rule I should keep in mind. I can stock up to my hearts content with super-cheap apparel fabric and notions if they are in good colors and fiber content. Splurge ONLY when something is perfect for my NEXT project. And even then, dont splurge too hard- something else will always come along :).

  1. These are awesome! Good for you for getting over the perfection thing. That's what got me started too.
