I took a look at the fabric for my franken-pattern dress mixing the CDD with the Marie. It don't look good, is all I have to say. The fabric is too floppy for the skirt part (I think that the professional terminology is that "hand" is too "soft"...eew.) So I guess it is time for me to reject that flaccid fabric and keep looking.
I'm going to see if I have enough of this striped one from my haul last summer from a fabric dive to make the skirt instead.

Given my frustration with bad instructions, however, I've decided that maybe I need to make a cape after all from Diana Rupp's book. I dont understand lining yet, despite my attempts to line two garments so far based on trial and error. I think following some instructions might be helpful, so Im going to give that a shot. But more importantly, I've once again been proven by the internet to be ahead of the fashion curve!
Harem pants, fake fur, jumpsuits, rompers, and now this:

Sigh...
I suspect that if I sewed as fast as I came up with my visions, I would be be tre chic.
My version will be made of that wool I had set aside for the lady grey that is now languishing...

But I'm substituting the green for some burgundy satin lining and ribbon. If I get super ambitions, I may add on a collar from another pattern, from the book, Sew Serendipity-and try out Gertie's technique of pad-stiching to shape it! but, then again, that might be crazy, given that I am leaving unprecedented numbers of UFOs in my wake at this point.
