progress on some bedsheet pyjamas...

Some sewists on the internets suggest easy projects after a hard one to "cleanse the palette" as it were. (Haha! Erica B's version of easy is a bit different than mine). Given the fact that this coat business has gotten too hard just yet,I thought I'd make some detours.

Last week, I decided that if I got ambitious, I'd make the "yoga pants" from the Diana Rupp book. Notably, this, like just about everything in the book is mislabeled- who ever heard of loose woven pants for yoga? you could barely do Warrior I in these!

So, instead, I decided to make them as pyjamas.

I was inspired by a pair of Peruvian ones worn by a house guest this weekend.

I totally decided to substitute with some readily available hand dyed cotton print I had on hand...thinking it would have much the same effect...

Indian, Peruvian, they probably would sell both in the same stores in the Haight...here I go, San Francisco is turning me into an orientalizing hippie!

I had some cutting challenges here, because of having already used big pieces of this for the zafu a few months ago- check out that hole!

But I love the chance for wacky pattern matching, as I've discussed before.

I did a less than stellar job on it here, in retrospect---don't look too closely at the inseam lineup... (carefully hidden in this picture!)

And the band cutting me off at the knee might make me look even shorter than I already am, but the fabric, being formerly a bedsheet, feels perfect for sleeping and lounging in.

Not pictured are some terrible buttonholes to thread the drawstring. I may give up and make these elasticized for ease of wearing. And they will need patches. But otherwise, I'm almost done- these took one evening of cutting, two mornings of sewing before work, and one half hour of ironing in between. And if I hadn't screwed up the buttonholes, they'd be done already. With all materials from the stash!

There is something to be said for an easy project now and then. These were delightfully easy, compared to all of the other pants/shorts efforts Ive been making! I have some brown linen set aside for another set of these. If I make another pair of these, they will have better top stitching, and they will be a present for someone...if only I knew someone who needed pyjama pants.
